Based on a Boulder County mandate that prohibit mass participation sporting events to be held as the Covid-19 infection rate soars, race officials canceled the Ironman 70.3 Boulder triathlon scheduled for August 1.

In a news release on Thursday, IRONMAN officials stated: “We are working diligently on all potential options and further event updates will be communicated as soon as possible.” IRONMAN added that athletes registered for the race will receive an email with further details.

In addition, IRONMAN added: “In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that this may come as a disappointment but look forward to providing athletes with an exceptional race experience in the future.”

Since 2001, Ironman has hosted a 70.3 race in Boulder which included a 1.2 mile swim in Boulder Reservoir, a 56-mile bike course and a loop 13.1 mile loop run course around the Reservoir.

While the Lubbock 70.3 race was canceled just three days before the scheduled start, IRONMAN gave entrants 35 days warning before the cancellation.
