Canadians rule Eagleman

Typically polite Canadians Cody Beals and Stephanie Roy paid a visit down across the U.S. northern border to teach U.S. triathletes how to do it right at the historic Eagleman 70.3.

Beals combined a 2nd-best 24:43 swim in the Choptank River, a 2nd-fastest 2:03:25 bike split on Dorchester County’s scenic rural roads, and a race-best 1:16:07 half marathon on Cambridge, Maryland’s welcoming streets to finish in 3:49:04 with a 6:28 margin of victory on American Adam Otstot and 7:26 on 3rd-place Australian Tim Rea.

Stephanie Roy began her day in 4th place and 2:21 behind women’s top swimmer Kelsey Withrow, then fell to 7th place, 6:57 behind leader Holly Benner after the bike leg. Whereupon Ms. Roy got very serious indeed and unleashed a women’s-fastest 1:18:01 half marathon – just 1 minute and 54 seconds slower than the male Canadian winner. That put Ms. Roy across the line in 4:15:31 with a 1:35 margin of victory over her esteemed U.S. rival Jodie Robertson and 5:22 ahead of women’s 3rd place finisher Holly Benner.

Oh, Canada!
