McQuaid led start to finish and essentially won it on the swim. McQuaid’s 22:33 mark for the swim in the Pineview Reservoir gave her a 2:45 margin over Shonny Vanlandingham. McQuaid put another 72 seconds on Vanlandingham with a 1:42:49 bike over the rugged 18.6-mile off-road course, then held on for dear life as Vanlandingham’s 41:17 run chopped all but 47 seconds off McQuaid’s lead.
