Jarrod Shoemaker of Clermont, Florida and Sarah Haskins of Colorado Springs, Colorado won their second USA Triathlon Elite National Championship titles today in a race that doubled as the Buffalo ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup.

Shoemaker finished in 1:52:44 and held off fellow U.S. star Gregory Billington by 8 seconds. Billington was the runner-up in both the USA Triathlon Elite nationals and the Buffalo ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup.

Joe Maloy of Wildwood Crest, New Jersey finished 3rd in the USA Triathlon Elite Nationals category, 1:27 back of Billington. David Mendoza of Mexico finished 3rd in the ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup, 14 seconds back of Billington.

Shoemaker won the 2010 USA Triathlon Elite National Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and placed 3rd last year in Buffalo.

Haskins, coming off a $105,500 payday at the Hy-Vee 5150 National Championship two weeks ago, won $5,000 for dominating the women’s field with a 2:03:05 finish that outpaced ITU Pan American Cup runner-up Flora Duffy of Bermuda by 1:16 and USA Triathlon Elite Nationals runner-up Kaitlin Shiver by 4:52.

Anna Battiata of Mechanicsville, Virginia finished 3rd in the USA Triathlon Elite Nationals in a time of 2:08:36 and Joanna Brown of Canada took 3rd in the ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup, 4:24 back of runner-up Flora Duffy.

Haskins won the USA Triathlon Elite nationals in 2006 in Long Beach, California and finished 2nd in 2007 and 2008. This win marks the 5th non-drafting win this year for Haskins and is her first ITU race since placing 8th at the ITU World Triathlon Series event in San Diego this May.

In addition to her 2nd place finish in the USA Triathlon Elite Nationals, Kaitlin Shiver of Gainesville, Florida won the Women’s Elite Under 23 category with her 2:07:57 finish which was 39 seconds ahead of Under-23 runner-up Anna Battiata, and 2:01 ahead of 3rd-place Under-23 finisher Marissa Ferrante of Palo Alto, California.

Gregory Billington of Colorado Springs, Colorado won the USA Triathlon men’s Elite Under-23 crown with a time of 1:52:52, 3 minutes ahead of runner-up Ben Kanute of Tucson, Arizona and 4:03 ahead of 3rd-place Under-23 men’s finisher William Huffman of Colleyville, Texas.
