Objects Of Desire

Opinions will clearly be divided when it comes to objects of desire and that is actually a good thing, because what would the world be like if we all lusted for the same stuff. Here though are 6 of the most desirable triathlon / TT bikes in my opinion.

Just like with many other goods and even people, it is something you know when you see it and very few arguments others might make will be likely to stray you from that path, even if these other folks are experts in that field. I thus do not envy the job of a bike shop employee who has to persuade a customer that bike C is actually better for them than option A and B that this customer is lusting for.

That being said, here we go with my Objects Of Desire in triathlon bikes in alphabetical order by brand.

The BMC Time Machine TM1 scored a victory at the opening prologue of the Giro D'Italia under Taylor Phinney and Greg Bennett used one to win the Rev3 Knoxville event this weekend. Very beautiful with a lot of adjustment.

This Canyon Speedmax CF bike was introduced at the 2011 Eurobike trade show and the Katusha team finally had this version at the Giro this weekend. Quite a simple and sleek execution.

Earlier this year the Cervelo P5 was introduced and Alex Rasmussen from Garmin-Cervelo piloted one to 3rd place in the Giro prologue. Frederik Van Lierde is on the triathlon version featured here and lots of folks wished they could be in his shoes, including myself.

The Felt DA is bit older by now but with still quite a bit of a lust factor. Andreas Boecherer, whose bike is featured here, really knows how to move one, and so does Kristin Armstrong of Team Exergy.

Team Commerzbank is no longer, but the Scott Plasma 3 is still a very desirable and fast TT machine. Sebastian Kienle though moves his so fast that most people will only see a blur and a trail of smoke.

The Trek Speed Concept is a very smartly executed TT bike and the one featured here belongs to Dirk Bockel. Very sleek lines and easily available in a variety of versions, this bike was very popular at the 2011 Ironman World Championships.
