More: What is SwimRun?
Run, swim, scramble, repeat. SwimRun is a growing sport that entails teams of two participants making their way together around a point-to-point race course with alternating segments of running and open water swimming. Teams may be female, male, or co-ed.
Teams must bring all their gear with them to minimize transitions. Participants run in their wetsuits and swim with their shoes. Partners are tethered during the swims, and safety is the number one priority. Fun is close second!
The Summer Solstice SwimRun swims are in rivers and freshwater lakes. Sometimes there will be weeds. There will certainly be mud and rocks. This is Maine. The run segments vary from the paved Old Canada Road Scenic Byway (Rt. 201) and neighborhood streets, to packed dirt roads, grassy runways, rolling fire roads, ATV trails, single track, and outright rock-hopping. Did we mention that this is Maine?
Directions: Route 201 in Maine. 12 miles South of the Canadian border.
Map location is based off of a geocode of the addressed entered using Google's Google Maps API. If your address does not geocode properly, you can either update the address (we will attempt to re-geocode after any updates to your entry) or you can use Google's geocoding tool found here: http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geocoder/singlegeocode.html to obtain a lat/long for your location and enter that. To use the utility, type in an address that is close to your location and then drag-and-drop the marker to obtain the desired lat/long. If you choose to enter a lat/long, you must check the box on the edit page that says, "override geocode with entered lat/long."
