The Swim Course
Lake Welch?s Beach is a great venue for the HarryMan Tri. The beach and swimming area does not open to the public until Memorial Day, which gives HarryMan exclusive use of the entire area! This means that the only time you can swim in the lake will be during the pre-race warm-ups and during the event itself. Once the swim course is closed, there is no additional swimming or wading into the water. The Park has also requested that there are to be no pets or alcohol at Lake Welch.

The swim course starts on the sandy beach of Lake Welch. The water temperatures range from 54 ? 66 degrees. The swim course will be a 0.6 mile triangle marked with large orange buoys. Smaller orange buoys will be placed in the center of the legs to help you swim straight.

The Half Distance will circle the course two times clockwise ? keeping the buoys on your right. The Olympic Distance will circle the course one time. When you exit the water you will have a run up the beach to the Transition Area.

Foot-washing bins will be placed en-route to wash sand off your feet. Follow signs into the transition area. When you cross the timing mat at TA1 your swim time will end. Enter the Transition Area at ? ?Swim End?. After you complete your transition to the bike, you will exit the transition area out the opposite side from where you entered ? ?Bike Start?. We cannot have over 150 racers start at a time ? so we will wave starts of approximately 80-100 people per wave. You will receive your wave assignments on event day.

Bike Course
The Bike Course maintains the classic gorgeous loop of Harriman State Park. A grueling yet fast 14-mile loop on lots of newly paved roads that will start at Lake Welch. You will exit Lake Welch Parking Lot bear to your right onto Lake Welch Drive.

IMMEDIATELY move to the left side of the road and make a U-turn to head West onto Lake Welch Drive. You?ll continue on Lake Welch Dr. to the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. USE CAUTION merging into traffic as you turn right heading north on Seven Lakes Drive. Soon after you will arrive at Kanawauke Circle.

Enter the traffic circle and take your second exit to continue on Seven Lakes Drive North towards Tiorati Circle. USE CAUTION as you enter Tiorati circle. Take your first right in the circle onto Tiorati Brook Rd. Follow Tiorati Brook Rd (STEEP & WINDING) until you go through the underpass. Begin to slow down as you will make the U-turn soon.

EXTREME CAUTION as the second half of the U-turn is sharper than it appears. After the U-turn you stay to the left and bear onto Lake Welch Pkwy. Climb up the hill to the Lake Welch Circle to complete the loop. Bear Right to continue on course for additional laps. You do not need to return to the main event area in between laps. Bear Left to head to the Transition Area once all laps are finished. The ?Bike End? location is the same as the ?Start Bike? location. Put your bike on the rack and exit TA2 on the opposite end to ?Run Start.?

Bike Aid Station
The Bike Aid station is located at the end of each lap near the entrance to Lake Welch after you climb the hill. There is a drop zone just prior and immediately after the Aid Station. This is the only area where you are permitted to discard your used water bottles. You can also pick up a new water bottle of water or orange Gatorade at this location. We will have Hammergels available. Please yell out to the aid station volunteers letting them know in advance what you would like and don?t forget to thank them for spending their day supporting you!

Run through Lake Welch Beach to the West Entrance, And Continue Straight across Rt 106 onto St Johns Rd. Take a left at the end on Lake Welch Parkway and continue until your respective turn-around. Cones will line the entire run cours

Map location is based off of a geocode of the addressed entered using Google's Google Maps API. If your address does not geocode properly, you can either update the address (we will attempt to re-geocode after any updates to your entry) or you can use Google's geocoding tool found here: http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geocoder/singlegeocode.html to obtain a lat/long for your location and enter that. To use the utility, type in an address that is close to your location and then drag-and-drop the marker to obtain the desired lat/long. If you choose to enter a lat/long, you must check the box on the edit page that says, "override geocode with entered lat/long."
